Afro-Puerto Rican Music and Dance with Alma Moyo

February 24, 2012
1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Originally from Puerto Rico, Bomba is a living cultural tradition of the Caribbean, and possibly one of the oldest African cultural art forms to exist in the Americas. Join Alma Moyo in singing, dancing, and drumming to Bomba, while learning the history and spiritual traditions within Afro-Puerto Rican music and of the African presence in Puerto Rico and throughout the Caribbean. Founded by Alex LaSalle, Alma Moyo is an intergenerational crew of Puerto Ricans and Dominicans who promote the diverse regional drum and vocal styles of Bomba with a Caribbean-blues sentiment. Alma Moyo was recognized as the best Bomba group in the U.S. by the Instituto de Cultural Puertorriquena in Puerto Rico. This program will be in both Spanish and English.
