Palm Wine Server

Palm Wine Server

Ceramics made to serve palm wine are among the earliest known to the Baule people. Palm wine is gathered daily by tapping the sap of one of two species of local palm trees and allowing the mixture to ferment.  Drinking it is a social occasion in which men pass the wine (called Bangui) around a circle and drink from the same cup.  The beauty of the serving vessel shows the taste and wealth of the host.

This can be used as a decorative or functional piece.
