To Cure and Protect Sickness and Health in African Art

Given ongoing international debates about health and health care, it seems both appropriate and timely to consider the ways that non-Western cultures have conceived of, visualized, and treated sickness and health. To Cure and Protect presents sculptures, masks, amulets, and other objects used as part of healing traditions in sub-Saharan Africa, both to cure disease and to prevent future affliction. Exhibition catalogue by Frank Herreman with a contribution, The Universal Search for Health, Role of Art as a Return to the Future by Bernard M. Wagner, M.D.
