Art/artifact: African Art in Anthropology Collections

It offers a historical view of the various western attitudes toward African art and the differences in the classification of objects as art or artifact, categories that do not reflect African ones. African art, then, is an ideal vehicle for an examination of the subtle influence exercised by museum installations; the aesthetic presentation of objects that may or may not be art seemed the ideal way to examine the borderline between art and artifact.
